Laia Berenguer, the leader of the Socialist Youth of Catalonia (JSUC) in her hometown of Sant Feliu de Codines, was imprisoned in Les Corts from 1939 to 1943. There, she encountered fellow PSUC and JSUC members such as Maria González, Maria Domènech, Isabel Vicente, Isabel Imbert, Soledad Real, Teresa Hernández, and Maria Salvo.

Upon her release, she returned to Sant Feliu, where she faced social rejection from many locals. Despite these difficulties, she continued her activism within the PSUC, and in 1973, she was arrested again during the dissolution of the Assembly of Catalonia, of which she was a member. This time, she spent several months in La Trinitat prison in Barcelona.

From 1986, she was a member of the Central Committee of the PSUC and the Assembly for Initiative for Catalonia (IC). She served as the councillor for Governance in the Sant Feliu de Codines town council from the first democratic elections, becoming the mayor from 1988 to 1990. In 2001, she joined the "Women of 36" Association.

Laia Berenguer passed away on 21 June 2011 in L'Ametlla del Vallès.
